Animal Portraits in Oil

Class description: What makes it a good animal portrait, how to paint this wet nose and give these eyes sparkle? Don't miss this opportunity to learn traditional oil painting techniques while creating a dynamic portrait with personality of your favorite animal. During the day course, we are going to explore painting alla prima, talk about shapes, values, and composition, learn expressive brushstrokes, and have fun portraying cutest animals. Some experience recommended, but beginners and first-time oil painters are welcome and encouraged to join! An instructor demonstration in the morning will be followed by personal painting and one-on-one instruction time.

Tools Required by students: Reference photos of your favorite animals, printed or digital (tablet or laptop screen)
All painting materials provided by instructor.

 

Yelena Lamm

Yelena was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where she received her formal art training from the N. K. Roerich Fine Arts School. In 1995, she moved to Pittsburgh, PA, with her family. With background in art restoration and over 25 years of experience in graphic design, Yelena is a full time professional artist and art instructor since 2018. Yelena is painting primarily in oil. In her lively and colorful portraits of pets and animals she loves to reflect on her subjects’ characters and personalities.

Yelena’s artwork is acquired by collectors in the U.S. and abroad. She is a Signature Member of Society of Animal Artists (SAA), and a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), Portrait Society of America, National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS).
