HOT business class!

Class price: $125

Skill level: Open to beginners

Class description: Transitioning from the wall, desk or other job to an artistic life is more than a career change. It’s about deciding the rest of your life, it’s about being your authentic self. A transition is a lifestyle change that allows you to rethink how you want to feel at the end of the day. A transition to the arts is about listening to your inner voice and expressing that voice for others to hear. It’s also an entrepreneurial business. You are working for you, and you still want to make a living or at least supplement your art habit! Maybe you're already an artist or dabble in art but are feeling a little lost or unsure how to progress, grow and sell your work?

We will cover discovering your art market, the ugly side of the business, pricing your work, getting started and setting yourself up for success. Discovering who you are as an artist, writing an artist statement and bio, tips on the art part, how to be seen and what a gallery is looking for in an artist. This class is not just a lecture, come prepared to work, to answer hard questions and to look at yourself and what you really want to do as an artist. Bring your pen or pencil and a notebook, let’s roll up our sleeves and get started. I will guide you through the steps needed to transition off the wall (or other job) and into a successful career as an artist.

Teri Althouse

I started in the decorative painting business in 1990 slowly building a crew of dedicated artisans. We took on very large-scale project all over the country. We faux finished the entire exterior of the world’s largest Harley Davidson building, and Wood grained 800 pirate boat beds for Disney in our spare time! After a successful 30+ year run at decorative painting, I have turned my attention to retirement. I've discovered that I am no good at retiring so instead I spend my days on much smaller projects along with sharing what I've learned in the finishing business with anyone wanting to learn! I fill in my schedule working on canvas art and running my new art gallery, Art Spotlight, in Ormond Beach, Florida. I will say that retirement keeps me very busy and art keeps me very happy!
